r/Nintendo has been around for 12 years and we haven’t come to an agreement yet. We have to do something! Tuesday Tussle is our weekly series in which we determine which of the 56 forms of Mario… bonus Transformations… whatever you want to call them, that’s the biggest thing.
We have a first group stage with 14 groups of 4 before moving on to the double elimination tournament. The Mario list comes from the Super Mario Wiki, the definitive source of all information about Mario and the final word, the ultimate authority that none of us will question.

- Boat Stand (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door) – lets Mario and his partners drive an undamaged
VS on the water.
Big Mario (Super Mario Maker) – allows Mario to break blocks by hitting them or jumping on them; defeats most enemies with a single jump
Group C – Losers Round 2
- Builder Mario (Super Mario Maker) – Swing a hammer; create and use the Builder boxes as a
VS platform.
Boomerang Mario (Super Mario 3D Land) – Throw boomerangs; grab objects/destroy enemies from a distance.
Group D – Losers Round 2
- Cloud Mario (Super Mario Galaxy 2) – build cloud platforms and span them
US.
Costume Mario (Super Mario Maker) – Super Mario skills, but with a small Mario size; modifies the Mario sprite to look like different characters.
Group E – Losers Round 2
- Flying Squirrel Mario (New Super Mario Bros. U) – Slides; clings to walls; jumps while sliding
VS.
Flying Mario (Super Mario Galaxy) – flies; attracts coins and stars.
Group F – Losers Round 2
- Frog Mario (Super Mario Bros. 3) – swims faster; overcomes currents; jumps high; walks in water
US.
Ice Mario (New Super Mario Bros. Wii) – Shoot ice balls.
Group G – Losers Round 2
- Ice Mario (Super Mario Galaxy) – walks or slides on water and lava; clings to and jumps over waterfalls; fire and ice resistance

Lucky Mario Cat (Super Mario 3D World) – temporary invincibility; earn coins when you fall down

- Metal Mario (Super Mario 64) – Invincibility; underwater breathing; increased strength and weight
